For most of my life I have been driven by two very strong passions: painting and photography.
As an oil painter, I focus my attention on the humble everyday objects that we can so easily overlook. I attempt to shed light upon the beauty of the food in our kitchen, the quiet flowers in a vase, and the charming reflections of a simple teapot. I also have an affectionate draw to the humorous and the whimsical. This theme can be seen scattered across my portfolio; cheeky rubber duckies, goldfish in light bulbs and anthropomorphized inanimate objects combined with smooth gradients that play with light and shadow create for a more interesting and fun piece of work. I normally don’t have a solid intention with my works, preferring to display things as they are, but in a different light. I do hope, however, that the simple fusion of humble beauty, tactile softness, and bright energy of these simple objects can bring a smile or even a bit of a chuckle to someone’s day.
My photography work is inspired completely by nature. The thrill of the varied unknown on every photography trip fuels my fire. The light, shadow, atmosphere and actions of my subject are always bound to create a unique and memorable capture with each outing. I spend all of my photography time snapping pics of wildlife and scenery in the outdoors. Whether it be in the wilds of Africa, the towering landscapes of the Rocky Mountains, or even the flat prairies of my home state of South Dakota… I will be found with camera at hand!
